Rally Liepāja spectator guide

Rally Liepāja is set to begin today with the qualifying stage at 16:15, followed by the opening ceremony in Liepāja. This years’ three day rally is not just the second event of the FIA European Rally Championship, but will also serve as the opening round of the FIA ERC Junior Championship and host two Latvian Rally Championship events. The battle for first place will take place over the weekend – on Saturday and Sunday, followed by the awards ceremony in Rose square (Liepāja) after the finish.

What? Where? When?

For the third year in a row, Rally Liepāja is the Latvian round of the European Rally Championship, this year taking place over three days – from February 6 to 8. The rally will consist of 11 Special Stages, with a total stage distance of 205 kilometers, to be covered over Saturday and Sunday on the roads of Liepāja and Kuldīga regions. During the opening ceremony, spectators will have an opportunity to meet their favorite drivers and get their autographs on specifically made autograph cards prepared by the city of Liepāja.

Rally tickets

For those who haven’t bought their rally passes yet, they are available for purchase at special selling points set up on the larger roads near the special stages. One point of sale near Kuldiga (in Priedaine) will be open on Saturday, February 7, while the other, between Liepāja and Skrunda (in Kalvene) will be open on Sunday, February 8. Precise locations of points of sale available on the official website HERE (marked with sign). We would like to remind spectators that you will only be able to buy a single stage ticket at the entrance of the stages, so please buy the rally passes before heading to the special stages.

The Special Stage maps, descriptions of best spectator points with GPS coordinates, interviews with Rally Liepāja participants and other useful information can be found in the February edition of TopGear Latvija magazine, which is available in most stores in Latvia.

Results and news

It will be possible to follow live stage results on the Latvian Rally Championship official website www.autorally.lv, which also has a mobile-friendly version. The results, along with driver comments after the stages, will also be available on the European Rally Championship website www.fiaerc.com. Rally radio

During the rally, all the news from the stages will be available on radio Star FM. Rally radio will be providing you with the results, interviews with the drivers after stages and expert commentary from the studio. All the official information from the rally center, including possible changes to the itinerary, will also be mentioned on air.

Rally reviews on TV

Eurosport operators will be closely following all the action and show a daily review (from Friday to Sunday) on their channel to an audience in 60 different countries. The reviews will also be recast in Latvian on the local TV channel TV6. Precise airtimes for the daily reviews are available on the official website of the rally at www.lvrally.com.

Optibet Winter Cup hockey tournament

On Saturday, February 7, the spectators at SS 2/4 Kuldīga spectator point No. 3, will be able to follow the Optibet Winter Cup hockey tournament, starting at 11:00. The games will take place on a frozen pond right next to the stage, giving spectators the opportunity to follow both the rally and the great battles on the hockey rink.

GPS data of the competitors

Rally Liepāja followers will also be able to check the exact location of their favorite drivers during the race. This will be provided by mounting a GPS transmitter in each car, which is generally used so that the rally personnel can follow what is going on in the stages. During Rally Liepāja, this signal will be publicly available, and spectators will be able to follow both the location and the current speed of their favorite drivers. The GPS map will be available on www.autorally.lv.

Spectator safety

Rally Liepāja would like to remind spectators to be cautious and follow the instructions of the safety marshals at the stages. We would also like to ask the more experienced spectators to assist in providing for a safe viewing of the rally – please take care of and assist the newer fans, who might be visiting their first rally. Information about places where spectators aren’t allowed is included in the safety leaflet included in each ticket kit.
