He lost 90 seconds to his ERC Junior rivals after running fourth on the road on day one, yet he fought back in his Sporats Racing Technologies Peugeot 208 R2 to finish third ERC Junior and ninth overall
“Since one year ago, when Alexey Lukyanuk won the Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy at Rally Liepāja, I have always dreamed about winning it myself. Now I get it, and I am delighted and very surprised! On day one, I drive one of the first cars on the road – it was my strategy, but it was a mistake. It’s the reason why I lost the race. I regretted being so fast on the Qualifying Stage – but now I’m happy!” conlcluded Ralfs Sirmacis.
"The jury of the Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy was really impressed with the ERC Junior drivers in this rally – the top Juniors were really very fast,” said ERC Sporting Manager, Jean-Pierre Nicolas. “Emil Bergkvist, Steve Røkland, Ralfs Sirmacis and Mattias Adielsson were all very impressive. Finally, on behalf of Gilbert Roy, the Eurosport Events’ Director of Editorial, and Jimmy McRae, father of Colin, and myself, we have decided that due to his start position in day one, to delivery the award to Ralfs.”
